Middle School Celebrates Festival of the Book

Today, Middle School students celebrated the Virginia Festival of the Book with a special presentation by author, Wendy Wan-Long Shang. Shang spoke to students about the importance of idea collecting as aspiring writers. She discussed how to find inspiration for writing through family members, personal and world history, and food.  Reading excerpts of her book, The Great Wall of Lucy Wu, Shang illustrated how she found her own inspiration through similar sources. Students engaged with Shang during the question and answer period, asking her questions about her favorite books and authors, as well as her writing process.

Tomorrow, STAB alum, Lex Hrabe ’95 will speak at the Upper School Festival of the Book Assembly. Hrabe and his writing partner, Thomas Voohries are collaborating on a series titled QUARANTINE. For more information on their work, visit their website.
