Middle School Choirs Present “Thunder of Horses”

Thunder of Horses to post

On Wednesday, May 8, the Middle School choirs performed a concert with a Native American theme. After a prelude of Native American songs performed by the fifth grade (including a hoop dance), the sixth grade choir and Saintly Voices joined together to perform Thunder of Horses, a children’s opera with music by Cary John Franklin and Michael Patrick Albano.

The opera is loosely based on a Blackfoot legend which explains the origin of the first horses through the story of Long Arrow and Willow Flower, two orphaned children.  Over the course of  a long journey with many challenges, Long Arrow is transformed into a young brave who brings the rare and valuable gift of magnificent horses to his people.

The concert featured special guest artists including Chris Owens, baritone; Shelby Sander, pianist; I-Jen Fang, percussion; and Elizabeth Brightbill, flute player.

A photo gallery and video from the concert are each available online.
