StABFaB! presented the Fifth Annual Madrigal Dinner on Saturday, December 13, 2014.
In a feast hall setting, guests enjoyed a meal based on authentic Renaissance recipes prepared by the School’s award-winning chef, Trey Holt. Musical and theatrical interludes accompanied the meal, with performances by the Upper School choir and orchestra following dinner. Both singers and musicians were garbed in beautiful period costumes reminiscent of the Renaissance.
Common in schools throughout the country, Renaissance-themed madrigal dinners are often one of the most popular performances of the academic year. They are a form of dinner theatre, usually comedic, featuring a multi-course meal. A play is performed during the dinner, and a choral concert included in the program. The School’s dinner also included a performance by a small chamber orchestra.
