ESL Summer Program Welcomes 19 Students

This year’s English as a Second Language Summer Program welcomed 19 students from Georgia, China, and South Korea for a three-week curriculum designed to encourage each student’s continued mastery of English skills.

In addition to daily English language classes, participants also attend studio art and computer science classes. As a complement to their classroom learning, they engage in field trips on Wednesdays and weekend days including day trips to Washington, D.C., activities at the University of Virginia and University of Richmond, a visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and excursions to local lakes for swimming and canoeing.

“Our aim is to broaden students’ horizons by giving them a little taste of our educational system, plenty of cultural activities, and an opportunity to develop relationships with students from other countries,” said Antxon Iturbe, director of the program. “It is fascinating and tons of fun to see students gel in such a short but intense time together, and to feel the enthusiasm they bring to every activity.”

Four of this year’s summer program participants will be joining St. Anne’s-Belfield School as boarding students next month.
