LV Library Hosts Pop-Up Maker Space

In honor of Dr. Mae Jemison’s September 20 visit to the University of Virginia, Ms. Wilkens and Ms. FitzHenry hosted a Pop-Up Maker Space in the Legner Learning Village Library with a number of space-themed options.

Dr. Jemison, the first African American female astronaut to travel in space, was the subject of one station devoted to allowing students to learn more about her life and work. Other options included a “Color the Stars” coloring station, “Make a Mars Rover,” “Build a Satellite,” “Launch a Rocket,” “Read About Space,” and “Watch NASA TV.”

More than 40 Learning Village students took advantage of the Pop-Up Makerspace, with many asking if there would be more in the future!

More photos of the event are available on the School’s SmugMug account.
